FAQ

From the initial inquiry to the final test report: answers to frequently asked questions about our testing methods and services.

General

TIZ Grieskirchen is an independent Test Institute based in Upper Austria. We support companies in the development, validation and qualification of products through mechanical testing, environmental simulation and measurement services. Our customers come from industries including automotive, agricultural engineering, mechanical engineering, rail, aerospace and defence.

TIZ Grieskirchen offers a wide range of testing and measurement services for product development and validation. These include vibration and shock testing, durability testing, vehicle simulation, environmental simulation and mobile measurement technology. We also support our customers with test planning, the development of customer-specific test profiles and technical evaluation.

Vibration Testing

During a vibration test, a component or complete system is subjected to defined vibration loads. This allows loads occurring during transport, operation or actual use to be simulated under controlled conditions and potential weaknesses to be identified at an early stage.

Vibration testing is particularly useful when products are exposed to vibration or mechanical excitation during operation. Typical examples include vehicles, electronics, machinery, control units and battery systems.

Our testing capabilities include:

  • Sine vibration testing
  • Random vibration testing
  • Sine-on-random testing
  • Shock testing
  • Resonance search
  • Resonance dwell testing
  • Customer-specific load profiles

Depending on the respective requirements, testing can be performed according to standards including:

  • DIN EN 60068
  • MIL-STD-810
  • AECTP 400
  • EN 61373
  • RTCA DO-160
  • ISO 16750
  • Relevant IEC standards
  • Relevant ISO standards
  • Customer-specific standards

The standards listed above are only examples and represent an excerpt of the standards we can cover.

Shock Testing

During a shock test, the test item is subjected to short-duration acceleration peaks. This allows impact loads to be simulated, such as those that may occur during transport, accidents or normal operation.

Depending on the requirements, possible profiles include:

  • Half-sine
  • Sawtooth
  • Trapezoidal
  • Shock Response Spectrum (SRS)
  • Customer-specific shock profiles

Durability Testing

Durability testing simulates the loads a product may experience over many years of operation within a significantly shorter test period. This makes it possible to identify material fatigue and potential weaknesses already during the development phase.

Yes. Using our mobile measurement equipment, we record loads directly under real operating conditions. Based on these measurement data, reproducible test profiles can be developed for laboratory testing.

Yes. By using suitable signal processing and test design methods, long-term operating loads can be reproduced within a significantly shorter test duration.

Vehicle Simulation

Yes. Depending on the test requirements, we test individual components as well as complete vehicles and machines.

A 4-poster road simulator reproduces real road loads using four hydraulic actuators. This allows road profiles to be reproduced under controlled and repeatable conditions and enables the testing of suspension systems, axles and complete vehicles.

Examples include:

  • Agricultural machinery
  • Commercial vehicles
  • Municipal vehicles
  • Construction machinery
  • Special-purpose vehicles
  • Military vehicles

Mobile Measurement Technology

Yes. Our engineers record accelerations, strains, forces, temperatures and pressures directly on vehicles, machines or systems.

Real measurement data provide the basis for developing realistic test profiles and significantly improve the relevance and validity of laboratory testing.

Test Items

Examples include:

  • Vehicles
  • Machinery
  • Hydraulic components
  • Drive systems
  • Batteries
  • Control units
  • Electronic components
  • Welded assemblies
  • Structural components

Yes. A large proportion of our projects involve development-stage and pre-series products.

Project Process

A typical testing project includes the following steps:

  1. Technical consultation
  2. Analysis of requirements
  3. Quotation
  4. Test planning
  5. Test execution
  6. Evaluation
  7. Test report

Yes. After completion of the test, you will receive a detailed test report containing relevant measurement data, results and documentation of the test.

Yes. Our experts provide support in selecting suitable test methods and help develop efficient and appropriate test programmes.

Quotation

For efficient processing, we recommend providing the following information:

  • Description of the test item
  • Weight
  • Dimensions
  • Drawings or CAD data
  • Relevant test standard or load profile
  • Preferred test date or time frame

Once all relevant information is available, we usually prepare an individual quotation within a few working days.
